Vegas – Day 2 – Sunday – Race Day

I’m going to do a separate Race Review post, but here’s how Sunday went down…

Brunch, wandering, getting ready for the race, finding Jenn, finding Nikki, walking to start, running race, finding Jay, ice bath, dinner with Jenn & Chris, bedtime zzzzZZZzzz.

SO freaking weird to run a race in the afternoon/evening.

Originally, I wanted to have breakfast, and then a small lunchtime snack, but, we had a terrible time finding somewhere to eat in the morning that was suitable pre-race food. We literally walked around for a couple hours, and everything had huge line-ups, no breakfast, only pasta, etc etc etc.

We finally settled on Postrio which was a Wolfgang Puck bistro/cafe type restaurant in the Venetian.  They had a brunch menu, and I ordered a mushroom omelette, and Jay had a German Oven Baked Apple Pancake.  We both had coffee, and I also had a fruit smoothie, and lots of water.

We also found that we had free wi-fi, so while waiting for our food, we caught up on twitter & facebook.  Yes, we are dorks.

Jay’s brunch was SO delicious, and I really wanted to come back and order it just for me the day after!  It was a German baked apple pancake!

My meal was good, I asked for no potatoes, and instead of just omitting them, they made my omelette extra big, and it was quite delicious.

After brunch, we did some more wandering, and were back at the hotel around 1:30 to lay down and relax for an hour.

Before we knew it, it was time to head to the start line!  I got myself ready:

We headed down to Paris to meet Jenn, a fellow Vancouverite from my ringette life, and then to Aria to meet Nikki.

On the way, I got lots of weird looks at my tutu, and not as much support, or love that I expected.  I second guessed my outfit, but it was too late at this point, and I really did feel super fun in it.

We had no issues getting to the start line, it was just a long walk, Jay was too lazy to walk with us, so he went off to catch some of the marathoners that were running past. He grabbed this awesome pic of Nikki & I before leaving us :

It was cool to see so many marathoners in costume, which I don’t think I’d ever be able to run that long in an outfit!

The start line area was huge, and well marked, so we had no issues finding our way around and to the corrals.

I’ll talk about the race itself in a separate post…

Post race, we headed back to the hotel, which thankfully was quite close, and I took a “luke-cold” ice bath in our giant bath tub.

And then we were back out to find us some food.  We decided to head towards Paris, where Jenn & Chris were staying, and grab some post race grub with them.

We ate at a french cafe, Le Cafe, and it had a 3 course special for $39, which seemed like a great choice, but really, the food and service was pretty mediocre.  Ah well.

After dinner, it was time for bed.  With the racing being so late, it was almost 12 by the time we finished dinner and were heading home.

And that’s a wrap for Day 2!  Still to come, Day 3, Day 4, and the actual race recap!  Phew!

xoxo
