It was mostly just being busy, but also not really wanting to talk about my sub par training that had me almost forgetting to post April’s training recap.

How’s my month been?
Womp womp. There really isn’t too much to say. I volunteered and cheered lots in April, and I raced once, at the Yakima Skyline 50K, which I basically hated. It wasn’t a great month for training, but I also had a prolo injection, which takes almost a week off of running as well. If I had done this recap right after April ended, I’d probably be more positive about it, but on a whole, I think womp, womp definitely describes my month.
April started off volunteering at Diez Vistas 50K, where I also snuck in a run with Nikki. We had a blast volunteering, and that same weekend I also did my first elevation based run, and my longest run of 2014 thus far.
I was feeling fairly good about my foot at this point, the prolotherapy seemed to be helping, and I felt like I was on the road to healing. But then my next set of injections, he hit a nerve and then all hell broke loose.
And then we had a family wedding, Jay’s brother got married, and then we were off to Whidbey Island for the rest of the weekend to support and cheer on my friends running there.
After Whidbey was Easter weekend and our trip down to Yakima, where Melissa, Shea, and myself ran the 50K. Full epic long race recap here.
Ladies of the Trails continued through April, and we had ALL fantastic weather. I didn’t keep track, but I’m fairly certain we had 60+ different ladies and 15 different dogs out on the trails with us.

I won my April Dietbet, just barely, and I really struggled to keep the momentum going. I think I was just frustrated and using food to ignore the real problems with my foot. Plus, rewards after an ultra are always decadent. But, I’ve decided to do another Dietbet – I can’t help it, they work for me! And it’s starting up in a couple of weeks. Deets here.
The rest of April was pretty bland. I did some runs, my foot got worse, I went up the BCMC with Jay, I did the orientation run for 5 Peaks at Golden Ears. It really wasn’t very exciting.
Let’s check in on the goals I set going into this month…
- I’d like to feel good in the first big race of the year, my first ultra of 2014, the Yakima 50K - Well, that didn’t happen.
- I’d like to fit into the dress I wore to Cathy & Mark’s wedding last May for Chad and Melissa’s wedding. - I wore it, but it was tighttttt so I took a second dress and ended up doing a costume change to be more comfortable for the party part of the night.
- I’m going to win my Dietbet, so I’m going to weigh about 161 at the end of April. – I did win, but I gained weight back in the last few weeks.
- Keep my foot injury rehab progressing along… - uhhh…opposite?? :(
Kinda pointless to come up for goals for May when it’s May 27th, so I think I’ll skip this section. May was a really tough month for me, which I’ll be recapping soon, since it’s almost June now! Eeeeek.
