2015…so far…

The most common question I’m hearing nowadays among my runner friends is some version of what’s up for 2015?  Whether they’re asking about goal races, running trips, fun races/events, everyone is starting to think about their calendar.  It’s always hard to choose what to do, what to miss, and what’s most important.

I’m still not 100%, but I do feel like I’m on the way to being healed and running strongly.  So, in that positive thought process, I have registered for a few races.  Not too many, but here’s what’s on the calendar, thus far.  Bold means registered, italic means I’m working it, and regular font means I’m thinking about it.

Trail Therapy

Annoying emails, people acting immature, bad drivers, missing turns, too many chocolates and treats, a mile long to-do list, mountains of laundry, a Christmas tree that is not decorated, dogs that need baths, blah, blah, blah.  Time to UNPLUG.

Marijke, Kelsey and I headed out to Buntzen, and the weather gods apparently knew that I needed to just unplug from life, and be blown away by the gorgeous place we get to live *and play!) in.

Just a few snapshots from our run.  I swear I only took like 10 photos total, they all just were stunning and amazing and had to be shared.

Diez Vistas 50K – Jump Jump!

OMG.  Such a fun day today volunteering at the Diez Vistas 50K ultra!

Short story : we had a kick ass marshalling station with a tent, chairs, and treats, what treats you might ask?  Cookies and craft brew of course!  No joke.

Long story : to come.

For now?  Pictures!  Jay is killing it taking photos lately, and his skills are getting better with every event we are at.  You can check out his album here!

Seriously, everyone should volunteer at an ultra.  So much fun.

Month of September – Training Recap

Don’t worry, I’m not going to miss September’s recap like I missed August!  In reality it’s a pretty sucky month with traveling, and twinges, so there’s not a ton to tell…

Total Road KMs : 21.5 kms

Total Trail KMs : ~104.5 kms

KMs raced during August : 15.5 kms

Total KMs this month : 126 kms

Total KM’s this year : 1888 kms

Hours running :  19 ish

Cross-training hours (Spinning, Grinds, Strength training) : Hmm…2 hours of Grinding is all I’ve got…second month in a month with only 2 Grinds :(

# of Grinds/BCMC’s : 2

How’s my month been?

This year is just flying by!  It was a good LIFE month with Weddings, and Vacay, and a big Birthday party.  It was a fun month, a busy month, but not an ideal “training” month.  I guess we could call it a stepback month, but that’s kind of crappy going into my next 50K ultra this weekend.

5Peaks – Buntzen 2013 – Trail Race – Race Recap

My 18th race of the year, was the 5th and final race of the 5Peaks 2013 series, the Buntzen Lake race on September 28th, 2013.

Spoiler alert :  For the first time in what feels like forever, I didn’t struggle in a shorter race.  Of course my race wasn’t perfect, and I still had to fight through to a strong finish, but it’s the first race I’ve really felt like myself, in a long time.  And it paid off, I finished the course 61st out of 145 finishers, 8th overall female, and 3rd in my age group!

Check out my full recap & some fabulous pictures, like the one above, from the very talented Rob Shaer!

Rainfall Warning…

Have you heard the weather report for this weekend??  Rainfall warning.

Not exactly what you want to hear going into a double bib weekend, is it??

Sigh.  Well, nothing I can do about it now, except prepare myself for the worst, and hope for the best.

And I can dream about it looking and feeling like last night instead…

Yeaaaaa.  It was a beauty of a night.  And you know that feeling after a workout, when you’re like “YES! This is why I do this”??  Ya, it was totally one of those workouts.  So, I’m just going to be thankful for how beautiful Vancouver was yesterday, forgive it for the rainfall this weekend, and hope the sun comes back to play a bit more before Fall & Winter really set in.

Just Running in the Rain…

So, now that you’re completely bored of all of my vacation posts, it’s time to jump back into my real world, my running world!

My running has been struggling lately.  I’ve got some tweaks that are not going away, and my body has just in general not felt 100% on a run, in quite a while.  This was the reason I left my runners behind for our week in Cali, and I actually took off 7 full days.  My hope had been that I would come back raring to go, feeling refreshed and strong.  Nope.  Didn’t happen.  But, I’ve still got a few tricks up my sleeve, so don’t count me out yet.

We’re in that in between season of trail running, that is perfect when it’s dry, and miserable when it’s wet.  Sunday was a miserable day.  But, at least this is where we got to run…

photo 1Gorgeous right?  That just so happens to be Buntzen Lake.

5Peaks – Ladies of the Trails – Weekend Buntzen Runs

On Saturday, we had our first every weekend run for the newly formed 5Peaks Ladies of the Trails, pre-running both the Enduro & Sport courses for the upcoming Buntzen Lake race on Saturday September 28th!

I loved the idea of being able to host a weekend event, as well as being able to do it as an orientation run for the race.  The Enduro course of Buntzen, the Diez Vistas, is a killer course.  It’s not terrrrribly long, between 15 & 16 kms, but it’s super technical and challenging.  Usually the views after the big hike is worth it, but it was a bit of a spooky morning, instead of the clear sky we were hoping for…

2013-09-14 20.20.27Yep, that’s me if you look close!

Regardless, we had a fantastic day on the trails, let me tell you about it…

Ladies Trail Running Day – Diez Vistas

When Amber asked me to take her for a 3-4 hour technical run, on Canada Day weekend, the gears in my head started turning, thinking of places to run that had good climbs, views to make the climbs worthwhile, technical aspects, and accessibility.

While I pondered good places to take her, another idea started brewing in my head…this was a great opportunity to take some of my friends that are either brand new to trail running, or trail running newbies out for a fun group run.

I’ve blogged a few times about Diez Vistas being one of my all time favorite trail runs to do in the lower mainland, and given the wide variety of what this trail has to offer, I decided it would be perfect for this event.

2013-06-29 16.57.52

Spoiler : our first ever “Ladies Trail Running Day” went fantastic – it was the perfect day; gorgeous weather, great trails, no injuries, a solid run for everyone, and an ice bath and cupcakes at the end!

Having 3 bloggers in our group, obviously we documented the whole adventure, so click on in for all the pictures!
