The last 2 Novembers we’ve rocked a BeastStreak, a running streak for the month of November, 30 days straight of a minimum of 3K a day. It’s a great way to keep moving when the weather turns cold and wet, and by making it into a group challenge, we keep each other accountable, encouraged, and keep moving every single day.
So, with being away for the first 2 weeks of November, I wasn’t able to organize or participate in a run streak, I’ve never really liked December for this sort of thing, because December is BUSY. However, I’ve decided it’s worth doing, and we’ll change up the rules to make it manageable for everyone. In short, let’s do this.
I got spoiled yesterday with a great day, and started off today on the same note. Candice ran and crushed her first 50Miler at TNF SF a few weeks ago, coming in just under 12 hours, while she went into the race scared of cutoffs (14+ hours). Killed it. And she’s going to be writing us a guest post on her experience soon too, so stay tuned. Anyways, she took a couple weeks off running, and this morning was her first time back on trails, and we just went for a little run, checked out where exactly trails and closed and got to catch up properly.
Day 15. Technically Day 17 of my run-streak since December started on a Monday, and I ran Saturday and Sunday because, well, it was the weekend of the Ugly Sweater Trail Run!
Yesterday I struggled through my run. My heart was there, but my body just wasn’t in it. I had torqued my ankle towards the end of Saturday’s run, and my legs just weren’t having anything to do with running on Sunday. My ankles and calves especially took forever to warm up. They were stiff and sore, and working against me.
I’ve mentioned before that my running mentor, Rainy, was the inspiration behind the Ugly Sweater Trail Run, as every year she hosts a “Oh Run All Ye Faithful” running/walking event out of her mom’s carport, where we do as few or as many 5K loops as we want. Well, Sunday was the 7th Annual! My parents flew back into town on Friday and on Sunday the 3 of us headed over to join in the fun.
Don’t we look great? Although no one else had festive sweaters on! I wonder why…
Ahhhhhh I love Vancouver so much, but sometimes it really pisses me off. Mentally I know that we need the rain to feed the rainforests where I love to run, but emotionally, I just hate running in the rain. I posted this picture to my instagram yesterday, with a caption about hating running in the rain, and it started quite the conversation and controversy of running in the rain. It appears that most people love it, or hate it. And I guess I’m in the wrong camp for living in Vancouver.
Anddddd the weather forecasts calls for a rainfall warning this week, so this week is probably going to suck and be really hard for the #beaststreak. Sighhhhh.
Guys, I’ve ran the last 7 days in a row!! Whoa. I honestly can’t tell you the last time I did that. Maybe last November, the last time I did the run streak? I don’t know. It’s seriously crazy to think about it for me, because I’ve felt so injured and so hopeless for really the past year. And even last November when we run streaked, I struggled with my feet. Right now, my feet feel pretty good. A bit sore and tired after runs, yes, but not sore during the runs, which is a major improvement. Majorrrrrrrrrr.
I don’t really have much to say today, and I wouldn’t be blogging if I hadn’t committed to blogging every day in December, but since I have to write, I might as well tell you how I’m feeling, since that’s why I blog in the first place.
As per usual, I have SO much to tell you. But of course I’m a bit like a squirrel “ohhh shiny object!” and then I’m distracted. I’ve been swamped since coming home from Mexico, and of course I planned to blog while I was in Mexico, but I really enjoyed being lazy, and it’s hard to be on a laptop when you’re in paradise. I did a little bit of work everyday, which was fine, but blogging just didn’t happen.
And now, somehow it’s DECEMBER tomorrow. Holy Hannah. So, I’m a bit of a mess if I’m honest. I’m up in weight, I’m completely out of routine, I’m kind of just running whenever I make plans with a friend, and I’m obviously not blogging. All of these things kind of make my life suck a bit. It’s just harder. Weird because being in a routine and in training is technically much harder and much busier, but it just ebbs and flows and it’s just life. It just makes sense, and it just works for me.
But, it’s always easier said then done to get back into the groove. But, I have an ace in my pocket. I already know what works for me, it’s just making that damn commitment. So, for December, I’m making some commitments. And guess what? December starts tomorrow, so here we go, let’s KICK ME IN THE ASS!
Wowsers! The Streaking Party is a real thing!! And I don’t recognize a ton of the names on this list, which makes it even cooler. Right now, we’re up to 41 streakers!
The spreadsheet is here, and feel free to sign yourself up to join us, it’s already super motivating, at least it is to me and my parents. We went out this morning, and they ran just over 3K, while I banked 5K for Day 1.
Today’s your last chance to join us, as you have to start running today, and from the sounds of it, there will also be a couple of random prizes drawn between the names of everyone who completes the challenge! (If anyone else has some random prizing they want to toss in the hat let me know!)
And the best news of the whole thing, is that we tentatively have November 30th booked as the next 5 Peaks off season fun run, which just so happens to be the last day of the challenge! What is actually a total coincidence will make for an awesome wrap up party for us streakers! I’ll be confirming this exciting Christmas themed (YES!!) run in the next week, so stay tuned, and mark off your calendars for now!
